Beehive

Recorded and filmed live in a Beehive temple that Heyes built in the Czech Republic. Born from over a decade of travel on the road, Beehive leads you by the hand on a musical adventure to find the common face of humanity. A journey of original compositions which take listeners on a spiritual quest across the earth, from the steppes of Mongolia to the shores of Cuba, to Andalusia and everywhere in between.

Created by New Zealand composer and multi-instrumentalist Jono Heyes and brought to life by a sublime international ensemble of musicians from New Zealand, the Czech Republic, Sweden, and France. Beehive is a dynamic immersive experience, moving from intricate flamenco picking techniques to emphatic orchestral motifs, from gnawa bass grooves to Miles Davis-esque trumpet solos. 

To dive deeper into the heart of the Beehive, Jono also wrote a book, 'Nectar of the Gods', in which he shares his philosophy behind the genesis of the project, from sound design to the mythical concept of the temple studio, and for each song the stories which inspired them. The tales tell of inspirational meetings and magical moments, from a flamenco guitarist with a spider dancing on his hand to holding pounamu blessed by a Parihaka elder.
